What is Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) ?

Definition

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) or Autism is one of the developmental disabilities. People with ASD often have problems with social, emotional, and communication skills. According to the CDC (Centers for Disease Control), autism affects an 1 in 44 children in United State today.



Signs and Symptoms

The symptoms range from mild to severe depending on a person. Commonly people with ASD might:


  • no speech or delayed 
  • not look at object, avoid eye contact 
  • want to be alone
  • not play pretend game
  • unusual behavior problem

Prevalence

  • About 1 in 44 children has been identified with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) according to estimates from CDC’s Autism and Developmental Disabilities Monitoring (ADDM) Network. [Read article]

What is ABA (Applied Behavior Analysis) ?

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is a therapy based on the science of learning and behavior. ABA therapy applies our understanding of how behavior works to real situations. The goal is to increase behaviors that are helpful and decrease behaviors that are harmful or affect learning.
